In May, we hold our annual event for 50 people that are isolated and rarely go out – young or old. As in past years, we provided refreshments, this year provided by Maisie J’s Catering (one of our members). We also provide entertainment – this year, we had the Merrymakers, always extremely popular, and members joined in with the Swingsters. The day finished with Caxton and Hilton Singers’ songs from the past. A special cake was made by the students of Switch Now and enjoyed by all. Quest were very pleased when they were also offered a small package of sandwiches and cake for their tea. Funding for this event was given by RIDGEONS, who we thank most sincerely.
Our Newsletter emphasised the power of TimeBank and how it helps with loneliness, helping give people someone they can talk to, get help from when needed, and come along to our events, such as our New Friends group. This has been proven on many occasions. When elderly and lonely, even someone just to get the shopping will change their circumstances for the good, by seeing another friendly face. We have also started working with TimeBanking UK on a project called ‘Home from Hospital’. Help is often needed to provide help with transport, visiting and making sure all in place on their return home from a hospital stay or period of illness.
